Nitrox MOD and EAD calculator

Find the deepest depth you can take a nitrox mix to, and the best mix for a planned depth.

Metric units: m, bar, L, kg.

How it works

The maximum operating depth (MOD) is the depth at which the oxygen in your mix reaches your ppO₂ limit. Below it, the risk of oxygen toxicity rises quickly. The limit is usually 1.4 bar for the working part of the dive and 1.6 bar at most for a brief contingency. For example, EAN32 at 1.4 bar works out at roughly 34 m.

The equivalent air depth (EAD) is the depth at which air would give you the same nitrogen pressure. The best mix is the richest mix whose ppO₂ stays within the limit at your depth, since more oxygen means less nitrogen. The single-exposure limit is the NOAA figure for the ppO₂ at your planned depth, not for the maximum you picked, so it can be longer than a 1.4 bar limit would give.
