Getting your dives out of the PADI app: the options

If you want a copy of your dives that does not live only inside the PADI app, here is what is possible, what takes effort, and how to make the effort once.

What the PADI app lists

We read the PADI app's own pages: its page on padi.com and its App Store listing. They describe a digital logbook and name no way to export it. That is what PADI lists; we have not opened the app itself, which needs an account. If the app has an export we missed, the right move is to use it.

Option 1: ask

Check the app's settings and help for an export or share option, and ask PADI's support whether one exists for your account. Features appear without announcement, and a direct answer beats a guess.

Option 2: keep your own record as you go

For the dives from here on, log them in a second place that exports, at the time, while you remember the details. A habit of two minutes after a dive saves hours of copying later.

Option 3: copy the dives across by hand, once

If you have a few dozen dives, this is a few evenings; for hundreds, it is a project, so decide whether the old ones matter. For each dive you want, note the date, the site, the maximum depth and the bottom time, plus anything else you want to keep.

Loggerfish has a grid made for this: open the import and choose the PADI app option, then type the dives into the grid or paste rows from a spreadsheet. Columns with recognisable headings go into the right place. A preview shows what will be saved, and nothing is written until you confirm. It reads no file because there is none to read.

Option 4: screenshots as a last resort

Screenshots are a poor record, since you cannot search or total them, but they are better than nothing if you have no time. Take them before you do anything else, then type the dives in when you can.

After that, export whenever you like

Once your dives are in Loggerfish you can export them as Excel, UDDF or a full backup, free on every plan, and take them anywhere. The PADI app alternative page sets out the whole picture. If you also use SSI's app, the SSI export guide covers that side.

Loggerfish is a logbook, not a course platform: keep the PADI app for whatever else you use it for.

Bring your PADI dives into a logbook you can export

Free to start, no card. Your logbook, and every export of it, stays yours on every plan.

Names such as PADI, SSI, MySSI, Subsurface, Shearwater and Garmin belong to their owners and are used only to say which product we mean. Loggerfish is not affiliated with any of them. What a guide says about them comes from their own public pages, listed beside the statement with the day it was checked.
