Loggerfish › Switching from another app

A Subsurface alternative for iPhone: your log, your charts, your map

Subsurface is a capable, free, open-source logbook. Loggerfish is the one that opens in your iPhone’s browser with nothing to install: bring your Subsurface log across in a minute, then see your own diving in charts and on a map, in five languages.

What Subsurface lists

Subsurface presents itself as free and open source. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with Subsurface-mobile for iOS and Android. It lists dive computers from about 40 makers that it can download from, by USB, Bluetooth or Bluetooth LE, and its iPhone app downloads from many Bluetooth LE dive computers.

One difference to weigh: on iPhone, Loggerfish downloads from two dive computers, the Mares Sirius and the Shearwater Peregrine TX, over Bluetooth. Other dive computers are not supported yet, so for those it reads files: Garmin .fit files, Subsurface logs, UDDF and spreadsheets. If downloading straight from your own dive computer matters most to you, check that it is one Loggerfish supports; if it is not, Subsurface does that.

Bringing your Subsurface log across

  1. Find your Subsurface log file. Loggerfish reads .ssrf files and the .xml that Subsurface saves.
  2. Open Loggerfish. Importing needs no account: the file is read on your own device.
  3. Open the import, choose the file, and read the preview. Cylinders, profiles and gas changes come across with each dive.
  4. Confirm the import.

Your Subsurface file is not touched, so you can keep using Subsurface alongside Loggerfish.
